Again this year, on January 27, 2016, the Amherst Selectboard designated February 1st as "Amherst Irish Day." Their proclamation recognizes the many contributions made by irish immigrants, as well as the culture, history and current events in Ireland itself. February 1st is known as an Irish festival day, commemorating patron Saint Brigid of County Kildare. The proclamation also acknowledges the series of events which the Association sponsors each month.
